Richards got off a VIA bus in the 400 block of Porter around 10 p.m. Dec. 20 after getting off work and crossed the street to catch another bus, police said.

Richards, a military veteran, was approached by two men, police said. He was shot once in the chest while he was waiting for the bus.

Police said witnesses saw the two men who approached Richards walking behind the La Unica restaurant in the 500 block of Porter, which eventually led to the arrest of Daniel Jeremy Torres Jr., 19.

Torres was arrested Feb. 22 on a family violence charge and was questioned about Richards' shooting. Torres admitted to police that he was at the bus stop when Richards was shot, but he said he did not shoot him. Torres is charged with murder.

Police are still working to determine a motive for the shooting.
