Standoff ends with man killed in officer-involved shooting

SAPD says standoff lasted several hours

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said Sunday morning a man was shot and killed by officers following a standoff lasting approximately 7 hours.

Police said they received a call from a woman who said her ex-boyfriend had broken into her apartment in the 5800 block of Shadow Glen Drive around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Chief William McManus said, "When she walked in, at some point shortly thereafter he put a gun to head, went past her and fired a round, stepped back and pointed the gun at her head."

"She managed to get out safely, but he barricaded himself inside," said McManus.

For several hours negotiators tried convincing the man to surrender peacefully.

It wasn't until 5:30 a.m. that the suspect came out of the building. According to police, he was pointing a gun at officers. Three SWAT officers responded by each firing a single shot.

The suspect died on the scene. His name is not being released at this time.

According to police, the suspect had several warrants out for his arrest.

No officers were injured. All three officers involved have been placed on administrative duty while the incident is being investigated.
