Suspect arrested in shooting, critically wounding 16-year-old

Arturo Briones, 16, was shot in the head Wednesday morning

SAN ANTONIO – Carlos Cabral, 25, was behind bars Friday night charged with aggravated assault serious bodily injury.

Cabral is accused of shooting Arturo Briones, 16, in the head Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened at the intersection of West Pyron and Wabash streets. San Antonio police believe the pair, along with several others, met there and began arguing over drugs.

Cabral then allegedly pulled out a gun and fired several shots hitting Briones once in the head.

Briones' friends rushed him to the Southwest General Hospital. The teen was later airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

"The charge is aggravated assault serious bodily injury. We are hoping that the victim will pull through from his injuries. They are very serious injuries but if he does not those charges will be upgraded," said San Antonio Police Department officer Douglas Greene.

Greene said the charge would be upgraded to murder.

Cabral is currently being held at the Bexar County Jail.
