Suspected drunken driver rear-ends off-duty officer

Von Ormy officer not seriously hurt

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police arrested a man who they believe was driving drunk when he rear-ended an off-duty police officer on Interstate 35 North near North New Braunfels Avenue.

Investigators at the scene said the officer who was hit works for the Von Ormy Police Department. He was off duty working a second job controlling traffic in a construction zone when his vehicle was hit from behind around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Police said they believe that the driver who hit him was drunk. The driver was taken to a hospital as a precaution and is expected to be charged with DWI.

The officer was checked out at the scene by EMS.
