SUV crashes into NE Side home, missing family members by inches

Driver had medical problem behind the wheel, police say

SAN ANTONIO – An SUV that slammed into a Northeast Side home late Wednesday night missed hitting members of the family who live there by only inches.

"My mom and son had just left the kitchen and they sat down," said Lupita Adamez, who lives in the home on Enchanted Drive. "My mom had just sat down when she came crashing through."

Adamez said her next door neighbor was behind the wheel when the vehicle jumped a curb and came barreling through the dining room.

San Antonio police officers at the scene said it appeared the woman had some sort of medical episode while driving.

"The lady was semi-conscious, and then she lost consciousness. And we called 911," Adamez said.

The incident was still fresh on her mind Thursday morning as she sorted through the debris, trying to salvage what she could.

Adamez was in the bedroom when she suddenly heard a loud noise.

"I just heard the whole house shake and everything," Adamez said. "I ran out, and my son was in front of my door. He just kept saying, 'There's a big boom.'"

Everyone in the home made it out safely. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.

It appears a small family pet was lost in the chaos.

"I bought my daughter a fish for her birthday last week and it's somewhere," Adamez said, looking around.

Adamez said she will have to break the news to her daughter once she is finished helping to put their home back together.
