A teenager was killed Thursday morning when he was struck by a train on the city's North Side.

The accident occurred around 9 a.m. near Empire Street and Savoy Drive, just south of the San Antonio International Airport.

According a San Antonio Police Department spokeswoman, the teen was walking along the tracks and was wearing headphones when he was struck by the northbound train.

The Union Pacific train conductor told police investigators that he saw the teen walking on the tracks and and attempted to alert the teen by sounding his horn several times. He also used the train's emergency brakes in an attempt to avoid hitting the teen.

The teen was not carrying a wallet and has not been identified. Police investigators are asking North East Independent School District officials for help in identifying the teen.
