Child dies, woman injured when truck crashes into highway bridge

SEALY, Texas – A child was killed and his mother was injured Thursday morning after a truck crashed into a bridge in Sealy.

Investigators said a Texas Disposal Services truck was traveling down Highway 36 around 10 a.m., when the boom attached to the truck hit an overpass on Highway 90. The rubble from the crash fell onto Highway 36, where a mother was driving north with her two sons, one child sitting in the front passenger seat and the other in the back.

Falling debris crushed the car, police said.

According to Click2Houston.com, the boy who was sitting in the front seat died. The woman was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy, officials said. The second child was able to escape from the back seat of the car. His condition is unknown.

All lanes in both directions were shut down as emergency crews responded to the area.
