Houston-area gun store employees fight back during attempted burglary

Men attempted to break into shop around midnight Tuesday

HOUSTON – Houston-area employees at a gun store on the Katy Freeway near Kirkwood fought back as a group of men attempted to break into the shop around midnight Tuesday, police said.

The store owner said two employees were at the store when a group of men tried to break in.

Police said the employees ran outside and pointed their guns at two people in the group. The two men were surprised and dropped their own guns.

"Two of the suspects were held at gunpoint," Houston police Lt. Larry Crowson said. "Two of the other suspects jumped in a vehicle and drove off. As they were driving off, they fired a shot at the employee who returned fire with an AR-15 rifle."

Thirty minutes later, police said, the three in that car showed up to West Houston Medical Center and dropped off a man with a gunshot wound in the back. There was no word on that man's condition.

Police said they are still looking for the two remaining men.
