Authorities: Brittany Jasmine dunked son, who lost consciousness

The pool supervisor told authorities that he was at the office at the time and he had two lifeguards in the stands. The supervisor said the lifeguards saw Brittany Jasmine, 22, dunking her son in the water to the point that he lost consciousness.

Authorities said the supervisor stated he heard "the baby, the baby," and he and another lifeguard jumped in the pool.

The 1-year-old boy was not breathing at the time, but had a pulse, authorities said. The supervisor gave the boy chest compressions, back blows and abdominal thrusts, and the boy regained consciousness.

A lifeguard told authorities he saw Jasmine dunking the baby by an arm and a leg. The lifeguard said he blew at her to stop, which she stopped for a moment, but then moved to another part of the pool where the lifeguard could not see her, authorities said.

The supervisor later learned that one of the lifeguards whistled at Jasmine telling her not to dunk the boy in and out of the water because he was so young, authorities said. The supervisor also later learned that she was pulling the boy by the legs.

Jasmine told police she was trying to teach her son how to swim and did not know she was causing him harm, officials said.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Memorial Herman Hospital.

Jasmine was charged with endangering a child. She appeared in probable cause court.

Jasmine's bond was set at $2,000.
