HAYS COUNTY, Texas – The Hays County Sheriff’s Office answered another call Monday night for someone impersonating a public servant during a traffic stop.
A motorist was on FM 2001 near Windy Hill Road when he was followed by a pickup with red and blue emergency lights. The victim pulled over for a traffic stop, but drove away when he saw what the suspect was wearing.
The motorist described the suspect as a man who is approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium build, with medium length dark hair and was wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
Sheriff Gary Cutler advises citizens to take precautions if they're unsure about the legitimacy of a law enforcement traffic stop by an unmarked vehicle.
Citizens may call 911 to advise sheriff’s dispatch about the concern and the location of the stop. All law enforcement officers are required to carry official identification cards and can be requested to present them to prove their identity as peace officers in uniform or normal clothes.
The Hays County Sheriff's Office is asking for information regarding this case. Contact the office at 512-393-7896. Information leading to the arrest of a criminal suspect may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
