2 arrested in multi-victim sexual assault, robbery scheme

SAPD has been working this aggravated sexual assault case for six months

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Police have arrested two men in a case they've been investigating for six months. The men are accused of luring women in, then sexually assaulting and robbing them.

As Andrew Brigham was walked out of the San Antonio Police Department and into a police car, he claimed he didn't know he was being arrested for aggravated sexual assault, a felony charge.

"I have no idea what's going on," Brigham said.

"You don't know what you're being arrested for?" a KSAT reporter asked.

"No I do not. They got everything wrong. I look like somebody, I am not that person. Andrew Douglas Brigham is my name. I am known, and I am not known for this type stuff right here," Brigham said.

The other man arrested on the same charges, Stephan Wansley, had nothing to say to the media.

"The Sex Crimes Unit has been working this case approximately six months. They're working on five separate reports that have come in where victims have claimed that lured in by an online ad agency allegedly by these individuals to abandoned apartment complexes," said SAPD officer Doug Greene.

The arrest affidavits explain the suspects contacted several of the victims through Backpage.com. They were told to meet at specific locations either on the south or east side of town. Victims told police when they got there, they were held at gunpoint, dragged into abandoned apartments, sexually assaulted and robbed.

"The victims were bound behind their backs. Then they were left there in the apartment by the suspects so we were able to see on their wrists that they had obvious marks, redness that proved they were bound by their arms," Greene said.

Over the months, police were able to develop enough information that led them to Wansley and Brigham.

"We did collect some DNA evidence and we did have some confirmation from some of the victims who ID'd the suspects," Greene said.

Both men were arrested in a parking lot off of Pecan Valley and Dollarhide. It was a joint effort between E-safe officers, robbery unit officers, and the SWAT team.

When a KSAT crew asked Brigham if he knew Wansley, he said he did but claimed his innocence.

"Yes, I know Stephan. That's who y'all got me mixed up with," he said.

The arrest affidavits mention other names of people who may also be involved. Police confirmed to KSAT there may be more arrests to come, and that this is an open investigation.

Police also said there may be more victims. They ask people who believe they were victimized by these men, or anyone who knows anything about the case, to call the SAPD Sex Crimes Unit at (210) 207-2313.
