SAN ANTONIO – Police are searching for a suspect in a fatal stabbing after 43-year-old Steven Chavarria was found dead in a driveway on the city’s Southeast Side.
Authorities said Michael Ramirez, 51, is wanted for the murder.
When officers arrived in the 100 block of Halliday just after 7 a.m. Saturday, they found a bloody scene.
“We got a call for an injured person. Our first arriving officer saw that we had a victim that was no longer alive. Blood. Looked like a crime scene,” said Sgt. Michael Schanlaub, with the San Antonio Police Department.
Investigators said Chavarria was found in the driveway between two homes. They said it appeared that the victim had been dead for some time.
“The call came in at 7:12, so it looks like that happened sometime earlier in the night. How long? We'll have to let the (medical examiner) decide the time of death or when that took place,” Schanlaub said.
Detectives interviewed possible witnesses about the homicide. Some told them authorities they were asleep in their home.
It’s unclear if anyone witnessed what led to the fatal attack. Police detained one man for further questioning.
Investigators were pulling out quite a bit of evidence from some houses along Halliday, but they said they have not found a murder weapon.
“The (medical examiner) is going to do their investigation. We don’t know the exact cause of death, just that it was some sort of blunt trauma, piercing trauma, to the torso area,” Schanlaub said.
Detectives said this is an ongoing investigation. They’re asking anyone with information to call them at 210-207-7273. If you see Ramirez, call 911.
