Wind blows off apartment building roof; Resident describes 'vortex'

Broadviewe Apartments resident describes "vortex" that came through building

SAN ANTONIO – Friday morning's severe weather caused a roof to be blown off a West Side apartment building, San Antonio fire officials say.

The roof was blown off a building around 2 a.m. at the Broadviewe Apartments in the 200 block of West Broadview Drive off Bandera Road.

At least ten families had to be evacuated from the apartment, but no injuries were reported, fire officials said.

According to a manager, three buildings were affected by strong winds and a total of 17 units were damage.

A resident tells KSAT it was a "vortex" that came through. He said he felt the building shake, then saw water start to pour in through the light fixtures of his second floor apartment.

He woke up his family and got them out just as the ceiling began to collapse in every room of his apartment.

The power was cut to the building and several residents tell KSAT the complex is putting them up in other apartments.
