Woman accused of stealing mail, taking bank accounts from elderly victims

Heather King, 43, charged with forgery

SAN ANTONIO – Heather King, 43, has been arrested on a charge of forgery in connection with a case that involved stolen mail, bank accounts being taken over and other accounts being opened fraudulently.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a special agent with the U.S. Secret Service first began looking into claims of identity theft after hearing from an elderly couple. Later it was determined that San Antonio police would take over the case.

The affidavit stated that they determined that the couple and others had been victimized. Police believe King somehow had the couple's mail redirected to her home, then used their information to open a bank account.

She also conducted transactions on other people's bank accounts without their permission, the affidavit stated. However, it does not mention how she gained access to the accounts for those people, who told police they don't know her.

During one transaction in April, police obtained a license plate number for a car that was involved. Through that, the affidavit stated, they were able to link King to the case.

King was arrested Sunday on a charge of forgery.
