Woman killed in head-on crash in Southwest Bexar County

Accident occurred on Loop 1604 near Rockport Road

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is investigating a head-on crash that killed a woman early Tuesday and closed down a highway in both directions.

The accident occurred around 3:15 a.m. on Loop 1604 near Rockport Road in Southwest Bexar County.

James Keith, a spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, said a man was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe south on Loop 1604 when he veered into the oncoming lane and hit a Chevrolet Camaro. The woman driving the Camaro died moments later.

A teenager in the car was not injured.

The driver of the Tahoe was taken to a nearby hospital after being ejected from his vehicle.

No one else was injured.

The BCSO said they're working to determine if alcohol was a factor.

The name of the woman who died will be released by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office once family notification has been made.

The BCSO said Loop 1604 was shut down in both directions as investigators worked the scene. The Highway reopened around 11 a.m.
