Pregnant woman, 29, fatally stabbed; boyfriend arrested

Two children present at time of incident unharmed

SAN ANTONIO – A 29-year-old pregnant woman was stabbed to death and her boyfriend was arrested Thursday night on the city's Northeast Side, police said.

The incident was reported around 10 p.m. in the 3200 block of Nacogdoches Road at the MacArthur Townhomes Apartments.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they found a man sitting on the upper-floor deck with the victim nearby.

Two children were inside the home, but they were not harmed and didn't witness the incident, police said. They were released into the care of a family member.

Charles Wayne Haltom, 29, who police said called 911 and admitted to killing the victim, was arrested and charged with murder.

Brenda Moody, a neighbor, said she told Haltom that if the fighting didn't stop, someone should call police.

"I gathered the kids up and said, 'Let's go inside.' And he said, 'I just called the cops myself.' He was really shaken," Moody said. "I went inside and I called my mom and said, 'Something is going on in the apartments upstairs, and I don't think it's good.

"I was kind of like shocked because earlier that day, they were already fighting and I saw the man outside."

A motive for the slaying and the name of the victim have not been released.
