Woman's violent death raises concerns in Converse neighborhood

Medical examiner has not revealed woman's identity

CONVERSE, Texas – A young woman’s violent death is the culmination of rising concern in a Converse neighborhood.

The medical examiner’s officer has yet to release the name of the 26-year-old woman found dead in her home.

The woman was discovered Sunday in the 8100 block of Chestnut Barr. Several neighbors at the scene told KSAT there seems to have been a lot of crime in the area lately.

In the last two weeks, there have been five assaults, 10 burglaries, 13 thefts and four other various arrests, including the arrest of a man wanted for murder in Alaska, within a less than 2-mile radius of Sunday’s discovery. That’s about 30 crimes.

Four of those crimes were on the same street and in the same block as Sunday’s incident.

Though neighbors believe crime has increased in their area, they said they never see violence like what happened Sunday.

Investigators said the 26-year-old woman was found dead in her kitchen with some sort of head trauma.

The Sheriff’s Office is handling the case as a homicide. Investigators do not believe the crime was random and have identified one or two possible suspects.
