SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio season is now in peril after the Spurs lost for the second time to Oklahoma City at the AT&T center.
The Thunder came from behind in the fourth quarter again to win it 95-91.
The Thunder take the series lead 3-2 headed back to Oklahoma City for Game 6 Thursday night.
"The game went down the the wire, both teams played very well," Gregg Popovich said.
The Thunder just managed to play better down the stretch.
The Spurs have now lost more home games in this series to the Thunder (two) than they lost all season.
For the second game in a row, the Spurs had the lead in the fourth quarter but couldn't hold it.
They were up six with four minutes left, 88-82. Tony Parker hit a jumper and one of two free throws the rest of the way.
In the meantime the Thunder rolled, going on a 13-3 run capped off by a Russell Westbrook layup and foul off an inbounds play with six seconds left to put OKC up four.
It appeared as if Kawhi Leonard fouled him on the inbounds but it was not called.
Westbrook went to the hole and got the bucket and the foul on LaMarcus Aldridge for a 3-point play. Westbrook finished with 35 points 11 rebounds and 9 assists.
"I definitely fouled him, but the referee I guess he didn't see it. You know you just got to keep playing through it,” Leonard said.
That was not the only controversial call against the Spurs.
With 54.7 seconds left in the fourth and the game tied at 90, it appeared as if Steven Adams stuck his leg out and tripped Green who then fell into Kevin Durant. Green picked up a foul and Durant made both free throws.
"Danny ran straight into me, I just got a piece of him the impact brought me back and it just happened the he curled, yea my leg just got in the way," Adams said.
The Spurs got off to slow start, but then their top guns, Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge got it going.
Kawhi had a 15-point second quarter and helped the Spurs go on an 8-0 run to close out to half with a five point lead.
He finished with 26 points on 12 of 21 shooting while LaMarcus Aldridge struggled some and was 6 of 21 for 20 points.
Even Danny Green had a great night. He was 6 of 9 on 3-pointers for 20 points.
But down the stretch the shots just weren't falling.
"We just missed a lot of easy shots, I thought guys had great looks, I had a couple of shots I normally make that came out,” Aldridge said.
If the Spurs are going to win Game 6 and extend the series they have to do a better job on the boards.
They were out rebounded 54-36. Three Thunder players were in double figure rebounds.
Enes Kanter with 13, Adams 11 and Westbrook 11.
"It puts a strain on our offense, them getting those rebounds and getting second chance points," Leonard said. The Thunder had 14 second chance points.
"We made a lot of stops tonight we just can't get the boards and its killing us at the end," said Tony Parker who finished with nine points and five assists.
The Spurs bench will also need to step up as they combined for 5 of 11 shooting and only 11 points.
"Well we haven't had great bench production. We need a couple more people to help us offensively. That would be great," Popovich said.
"Whoever plays better, hustles more gets more rebounds is going to win the next one so hopefully it’s us. We did it once and we are going to try and do it again," said Manu Ginobili.
Game 6 will be Thursday evening from Oklahoma City.
