SA Stars biggest fan celebrates team's 15-year anniversary

Marsha Warren has been season ticket holder since 2003

SAN ANTONIO – The 2017 season marks the San Antonio Star's 15 anniversary.

Stars guard Kayla McBride said this is going to be the team's year.

"High intensity. Our defense is going to be crazy. We are going to go up and down the court a lot more," McBride said.

Two former Star players now lead the team.

Vickie Johnson was named the team's ninth head coach in franchise history on Dec. 22, 2016, and former player Ruth Riley was named general manager on April 20, 2016.

"The whole dynamic and the whole culture is kind of changing," McBride said.

What is not changing are the fans.

"If you love basketball, come to a woman's game," Marsha Warren, a season ticket holder since 2003, said. "I get to sit in my own seat. I get to claim this as my own every single game."

Warren remembers her first game.

"It was the first time I sat in a WNBA game in San Antonio, my hometown," Warren said. "I wasn't a visitor of somebody else's place and didn't know anything about the arena. I was sitting here and looking down and saying, 'Whoa, we did something.'"

The team was founded in Utah and then moved to San Antonio before the 2003 season.

Warren has built long-lasting relationships with other fans in her section at the AT&T Center over the years.

She credits the organization for always supporting them.

"They believe in their fans. They believe in the city. They believe in each individual that's on that team," Warren said.

The players never take their fans for granted.

"We feed off their energy. Whether it's an 11 o'clock game, a 7 o'clock game, it doesn't matter. When we are home, we feel like we have an extra advantage because of them," McBride said.
