3 big rigs involved in collision on I-10 West near Zuehl Rd

Officials advise using alternate route

SAN ANTONIO – Three 18-wheelers were involved in crash on Interstate 10 West early Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred on Interstate 10 West near Zuehl Road, with one of the 18-wheelers catching fire. Another of the big rigs went off the highway across the access road and hit a tree. A third stopped on the highway.

A Cibolo firefighter said the driver of the truck that hit the tree was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was hurt.

Diesel and sand scattered across at least a quarter mile of the highway. Interstate 10 West is shut down in the area. Firefighters are not sure how it happened.

A tow truck driver said he wasn't sure who hit who. He also said it's going to take hours to clean up.

Authorities said they are waiting for TxDOT to appear and do the cleanup before they can tow away any of the trucks. They expect the highway to open around 11 a.m.

Officials presently advise using an alternate route if you must drive in the area.
