Off-duty officer injured by hit and run driver, police say

Accident happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police is investigating after an off-duty officer was injured when his vehicle was rear-ended at an intersection overnight.

The hit and run accident happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday near San Pedro and W. Cypres Street just north of downtown.

Police said the driver, after hitting the off-duty officer's vehicle, drove into a parking lot and exited on West Ashby and Howard Street where the driver then had a second accident hitting a retaining wall. 

The driver was arrested at the scene of the second accident on West Ashby. Police said the driver did not have a driver's license. 

The officer involved in the accident suffered both back and neck injuries and was transported by EMS to downtown Methodist Hospital. 

The driver of the vehicle that hit the police officer was transported to University Hospital to be evaluated at the hospital under police custody.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
