SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are searching for the driver responsible for two hit-and-run accidents just minutes apart overnight.
The first accident occurred just before 10 p.m. in the 100 block of Brooklyn Avenue on the city's East Side.
Police said three people were riding their bicycles down Austin Street when a cyclists was hit as they made a left-hand turn onto Brooklyn. After hitting the cyclist, that same driver drove off towards Interstate 35 and turned the wrong-way down the access road.
Within ten minutes of hitting the cyclist, the driver crashed his vehicle into a truck going northbound near New Braunfels Avenue, police said. Officers said the driver ditched his car following the second accident. Witnesses said they tried to follow him, but lost him on Walters Street near I-35.
Police said the cyclist hit was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition. There is no word on the condition of the driver of the truck.
SAPD added that a third hit-and-run accident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. on W.W. White Road near East Houston Street. In that accident the man hit flew into another vehicle going the same way, police said. Emergency responders said the victim was not responsive when they arrived. He was taken to SAMMC for his injuries. This hit and run was not related to the other two crashes, police said.
