Man killed in rollover crash on Loop 410

Accident occurred just after 2:30 a.m.

SAN ANTONIO – A driver is dead following a rollover crash on the city's Southwest Side overnight, San Antonio police said Monday.

The accident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on southbound Loop 410 at Ray Ellison.

Police said they believe the driver was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle, hit a light pole and then rolled the vehicle over.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was ejected 50 feet and died at the scene.

"We tried to get it wrapped up as soon as we can, we know people need to get to places need to get to work, but again we owe it to the victim's family to [do] a thorough investigation," San Antonio police spokesman Officer Doug Greene said. "Usually in the morning traffic is pretty light, but still anything can happen."

Officers said they questioned several witnesses about the crash.

The name of the victim has yet to be released.

Drivers were forced to exit Medina Base Road as emergency crews worked.

The highway has since reopened.
