Traffic alert: I-35 to be shut down at New Braunfels Avenue this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – Interstate 35 will be shut down this weekend so the Texas Department of Transportation can do some bridge work on New Braunfels Avenue.

The shutdown, which begins at 9 p.m. Friday, affects both lanes of the interstate. While drivers will still be able to use the roadway, officials said it will be congested.

As a detour, drivers can take the New Braunfels Avenue exit, go through the intersection and get back on the interstate on the other side.

Workers will be on site this weekend to repair some damage to the bridge and do some upgrades.

I-35 will be opened up Saturday afternoon, so people can get to the Spurs game Saturday night. However, the lanes will be closed again around midnight after giving people a chance to clear the area around the AT&T Center.
