According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, a red four-door sedan ran a stop sign at Schuwirth Road and hit a VIA bus which was heading south on Loop 1604. The car then bounced off the bus and hit a pickup truck, the BCSO said.

Five people including two children, ages 4 and 6, were taken to the hospital with injuries. The 20-year-old driver of the car and one of the children were taken by helicopter and at least one person is in critical condition, the BCSO said.

The VIA bus involved in the crash was flipped onto its side in a field. There were no passengers on board the bus, only the driver who was one of the injured, officials said.

The BCSO said the bus and pickup drivers both have minor injuries.

Authorities closed Loop 1604 between Green Road and FM 1346 as emergency crews work at the scene.
