The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man who killed himself as Brian David Mayes, 39.

Orginial Story:

A man with two felony warrants out for his arrest led police on a chase Sunday afternoon before killing himself, police said.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on the city’s Northeast Side.

Police said they found a man sleeping in his car in a parking lot. When an officer ran the license plate number it came back with two felony warrants.

When the officer called for backup the driver took off.

A short high-speed chase ensued before the chase was called off.

Moments after that happened, police received reports of an accident near Interstate 35 and Judson Road. The man had crashed into multiple cars.

Police said witnesses told them they saw the man then run from the scene.

“A lot of individuals saw him jump onto the freeway,” Officer Doug Greene with SAPD said. “By time officers saw him he suffered a gunshot wound to the head.”

It is unknown if anyone else was injured in the crash, the San Antonio Police Department’s homicide unit is investigating.
