Flooding reported along I-35 near downtown, thousands reported without power

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio and South Texas saw heavy rain, hail and numerous reports of a tornado Sunday evening.

11:45 p.m. update: The CPS Energy outage map shows 501 outages with 44,000+ customers without power.

11:30 pm update: Flooding has been reported along Interstate 35 at Cevallos Street and San Pedro Avenue. A flash flood warning has been issued for Bexar County until 1:30 a.m.

11:15 p.m. update from NWS-San Antonio: Rotation has decreased substantially. The tornado warning has been cancelled. Rotation can rapidly intensify, so stay tuned for updates. Earlier update reported 60+ mph winds impacting the Canyon Lake area. 

9:15 p.m. update: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Medina County until 10 p.m.

9 p.m. update: The severe thunderstorm watch has been expanded to include Bexar County, as well as counties north and south of San Antonio. The watch follows along I-10 and I-37. The flash flood warning for Kinney and Maverick counties has been allowed to expire.

8 p.m. update: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Edwards, Kerr and Real counties until 9 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Uvalde and Zavala counties until 8:45 p.m.

7:45 p.m. update: A flash flood warning has been issued for Kinney and Maverick counties until 10:30 p.m. Drivers are encouraged to stay off the roads and avoid low water crossings. Remember it is hard to know the depth of the water at night, turn around don't drown.

6:30 p.m. update: The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area west of San Antonio.

The counties included are: Kerr, Bandera, Medina, Frio, Uvalde, Real, Edwards, Val Verde, Zavala, Dimmit and Maverick. The watch remains in effect until midnight.

5:45 p.m. update: The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Maverick and Kinney counties until 6:30 p.m. Hail and damaging winds are the primary concerns. Area included in the warning -- Brackettville, Spofford and Quemado. 

5:00 p.m. update: Scattered storms have formed in the western portion of the viewing area. Small hail has been reported with these storms in Real, Kinney, Val Verde and Edwards counties.

The San Antonio and South Texas area is expected to see rain and possible heavy storms late Sunday afternoon into early Monday morning.

The National Weather Service reported that 1 to 2 inches of rain is likely across the area. Some parts of the area could get up to 5 inches of rain.

The chances for hail and high winds are also in the forecast.
