CPS crews return home after 9-day mission on coast

Workers went to Victoria and Bloomington to help restore power

SAN ANTONIO – CPS Energy trucks and crew members returned to San Antonio safe and sound after a nine-day assignment on the Texas coast.

"Everyone at CPS Energy came home the same way they left," said William Schneider, one of more than 50 CPS employees, including line crews and support personnel, who went into the diaster zones of Victoria and nearby Bloomington on Sept. 1 after a call for help.

"The Texas Gulf Coast is somewhere we always go, and to see the devastation there really sets in," Schneider said.

More than 200,000 Texans were left without electricity after Hurricane Harvey.

CPS worked alongside linemen from other utility companies to bring back power to those affected by the historic storm.

"You really pray for these people and wish them the best in their recovery efforts," Schneider said.

Now that the nine-day mission is over, Schneider is thankful to be able to hold his family a little tighter.

"Wife and daughter came here to pick me up and bring me home," Schneider said.

He estimates the crews from CPS alone were able to get power up and going for 20,000-25,000 people.
