KSAT Weather: Strong storms impact San Antonio, Hill Country; flooding a concern

Severe weather threat giving way to flooding threat in Hill Country

SAN ANTONIO4 AM UPDATE: Bexar, Atascosa and Medina are under flash flood warnings until 6:45 a.m.

3 AM UPDATE: Bexar, Atascosa and Medina counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 3:45 a.m.

1:40 AM UPDATE: There are reports of two high water rescues in Bandera County. One is north of the town of Bandera near at Mason Creek near Chipman Lane and the other is in the Skyline RV Park near River Bend Drive.

1:20 AM UPDATE: The NWS has re-issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Medina, Uvalde and Bandera counties until 2 a.m.

They are also forecasting Medina Lake to rise several feet by late Sunday. Radar estimates show that over 8 inches of rain has fallen near Bandera.

12:30 AM UPDATE:  Due to strong storms that moved through the area Saturday night, several areas in the City of Kerrville have been left without power. The Kerrville Public Utility Board is aware of the outages and working to restore power as soon as possible.

All low water crossings in Kerrville have been closed until the water recedes and city crews can properly clean those public areas up.

Additionally, the River Trail, Louise Hays Park and Guadalupe Park have been temporarily closed due to flooding. Barricades have been put up at each trailhead for public safety. The trail will re-open as soon as the water recedes and clean-up is completed.

12:10 AM UPDATE: Storms have moved into San Antonio. Areas around Helotes, Sea World and Camp Bullis are seeing heavy rain and high winds.

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Uvalde, Medina, Kendall, Kerr and Real counties until 12:30 a.m.

A flash flood warning has been extended to include Uvalde and Medina counties until 3 a.m.

11:30 PM UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch has now been extended to include Bexar, Comal, Blanco and Kendall counties until 1 a.m.

Warning remain in effect until midnight for Bandera and Kendall counties. The storms continue to move toward San Antonio.

A flash flood warning has been issued for Kendall, Kerr, Bandera and Real counties until 2:30 a.m.

10:15 PM UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Kerr and Kendall counties until 11 p.m. A storm complex that sat nearly stationary over Kerr County has begun to move southeast toward San Antonio.

Areas in the warning include Kerrville, Comfort, Welfare and Boerne.

Bandera, Real, Uvalde and Medina counties also remain under a severe thunderstorm warning until 11 p.m. Another storm south of the larger storm complex is impacting the area. 

9:15 PM UPDATE: The severe thunderstorm warning has been extended. Kerr, Real and Bandera counties remain under a warning until 10: 15 p.m.

The NWS also said flash flooding could become an issue as these storms continue to remain nearly stationary.

Medina and Uvalde counties remain under a severe thunderstorm warning until 10:15 p.m.

8:15 PM UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Kerr and Real counties until 9:15 p.m. The storm is moving south from Kimble County and will impact western portions of the county.

Large hail has been reported in these storms today.

7:30 PM UPDATE: The NWS has issued a flash flood warning for Medina County until 10 p.m. Saturday. Storm have dropped nearly 2 inches of rain in the last two hours and some ares could pick up another 2 inches. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly. Areas impacted include Hondo, Dunlay, Birly and Noonan.

The storm in Bandera County continues to move north into Kerr County. Both remain under a severe thunder storm warning until 8:30 p.m.

Medina County remains under a severe thunderstorm warning until 8:30 p.m.

7 PM UPDATE: The NWS has extended, expanded the warning for Medina County to include communities north of the city, and now included Bandera County. 

The warning is in effect until 7:30 p.m.

6 PM UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Medina County until 7 p.m.

The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m. tonight. Any thunderstorm that develops has the risk for becoming strong to severe with threats for large hail, gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall.
