Storm damage forces two school districts to cancel classes

Hail, wind damage to buildings at Brackettville ISD, San Felipe Del Rio CISD

BRACKETTVILLE, Texas – Two school districts west of San Antonio canceled classes Tuesday after storms damaged school buildings.

Three school buildings in the Brackett Independent School District had roof damage and up to 100 windows were shattered by hail, Superintendent Kevin Newsom said.

"It knocked (out) a lot of our windows in our schools and offices and our classrooms," Newsom said. "It also damaged our buses. We have windows out of buses and everything. So we weren't even capable to run our routes this morning because we have a lot of damage to our vehicles. We have some of our school vehicles that don't even have windows left in them."

Storm damage also prevented schools in San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated ISD from holding classes.

Strong winds damaged roofs and snapped power lines in the Rancho Alta Vista and Lake Ridge Ranch subdivisions. Hail damage was also reported.
