Remember when plasma TVs were the latest, greatest thing in televisions?
Manufacturers are phasing out plasmas, leaving consumers mainly with LCDs, which are very popular.
But now there is an emerging technology called OLED.
The head of Consumer Reports' TV Testing said it is the best display technology on the market, combining the best of plasmas and LCDs.
OLEDs, which stands for organic light-emitting diodes, started out very expensive. One Samsung model was $10,000 last year.
But prices are coming down.
More manufacturers are expected to get into OLED in the next year and that should bring prices down even more.
Also coming soon is the marriage of OLED and Ultra High Def.
LG expects to start selling the Ultra High Def OLED soon, but the price is astronomical.
The 65-inch set is $10,000 and the 77-inch will be $25,000.
