New Selena album to be released nearly 3 decades after her death

Selena is sometimes referred to as the ‘queen of Tejano music’

Selena fans are getting an unexpected surprise in the form of fresh music from the late singer nearly three decades after her death.

Selena’s father Abraham Quintanilla recently sat down for an interview with Latin Groove News and said the new album, which is being released by Warner Music, will have 13 songs including several previously released songs with different musical arrangements.

“If it was cumbia it could be a ballad,” Abraham Quintanilla said in the interview.

Quintanilla said his son A.B. was able to work on Selena’s voice with computers.

“Not only is the music completely new arrangements... she sounds, on these recordings, like she did right before she passed away,” Quintanilla said. “It’s kind of amazing.”

Quintanilla said all the music is completely finished and that he believes that the only thing left to do for the album is the artwork.

He believes the album will be available sometime in April but told Latin Groove News that an official release date has still not been set.

Selena was murdered at a motel in Corpus Christi on March 31, 1995, by the president of her fan club Yolanda Saldivar.

Saldivar is currently serving her life sentence at Mountain View Unit in Gatesville and will be eligible for parole on March 30, 2025.
