Hidden Camera Found In Burbank HS Bathroom

Police: 6 Students Caught On Camera, Trainer Jason Steitle Resigns

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – An athletic trainer at Burbank High School resigned Thursday amid allegations he placed a hidden video camera in a men's restroom on campus.

San Antonio Independent School District spokeswoman Leslie Price said students discovered the camera Wednesday afternoon.

They said it was hidden in the ceiling tiles of the second floor men's room in the school's main gym.

Price said the students turned the camera over to a coach who gave it to SAISD police.

After reviewing the 15 minutes of video footage on the camera, officers noticed the athletic trainer installing the device.

Price identified the trainer as Jason Steitle. She said he had worked for three years as a trainer at Burbank and had a clean record.

When asked about the camera, Steitle confessed to placing it in the restroom.

"The employee told us he put the camera in place because of tagging in the bathroom, but whatever the reason was you are not allowed to put a camera in the ceiling of the bathroom," Price said.

Price said Steitle resigned shortly after being confronted about the hidden camera. It's unknown how many times the camera was used to secretly capture video of students.

A total of six students were captured by the camera. Price said two of the students were of adult age, while the other four were minors. Their parents were contacted and a letter was sent home with all Burbank students Thursday afternoon.

As of Thursday night, Steitle had not been arrested, but Price said the district will pursue improper photography charges against him and the incident will be reported to state education officials.
