FLORESVILLE, Texas – Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is in Floresville all this week, building a home for a deserving Iraq war veteran and his family.
A 4,500-square-foot house will be the final product once all the construction is said and done. Crews have been working 24 hours a day since Saturday morning to make sure it all gets done.
"The volunteer spirit in Texas is off the charts," said Brady Connell, executive producer of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
He told KSAT that his show loves coming back to Texas, but admits no one can believe that a house actually goes up in a week.
"We've done over 200 of these and I don't think anybody gets used to the idea that it was yesterday morning there was a trailer here and everything was normal," said Connell.
Call it the new normal. Local foundation Morgan's Wonderland is the lead contactor and reports that so far, all is good.
"We're doing great, we had some setbacks last night but we picked up a lot of ground with the framing," said Joshua Gerstner, of Morgan's Wonderland.
The house should be completely framed out by early tomorrow morning, thanks in large part to over 150 framers that working feverishly.
By the end of the week, organizers are expecting over 4,00 volunteers to come through.
"We're getting to the point where we're maybe a couple of hours ahead of schedule. Almost unheard of," said Gerstner.
The big reveal is this weekend.
