Texas State Aquarium releases rehabilitated barn owl

SAN ANTONIO – A few months after taking in a badly injured barn owl, the Texas State Aquarium released the bird back into its natural habitat Thursday evening.

The adult owl was taken in from Alice, Texas, in late June. The bird came in to the Aquarium's Second Chances Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital in Corpus Christi in a "very poor, barely responsive state," according to a press release.

Staff quickly discovered the animal to be dehydrated and lethargic. The owl also had no tail feathers and abrasions on its legs.

After several months of care, the owl's condition greatly improved and was able to fly and hunt.

Aquarium staff released the owl back into its natural habitat at Sablatura Park in Robstown.
