VIA debuts 'Don't Chase the Bus' safety campaign

Initiative part of Vision Zero San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – VIA Metropolitan Transit on Tuesday unveiled a new safety-messaging campaign aimed at discouraging passengers from chasing a bus.

The "Don't Chase the Bus" campaign incorporates some local heritage and traditions to help drive the point home, including a list of things VIA says San Antonians won't do, like forget the Alamo, skimp on Fiesta medals or deny Spurs pride. VIA added chasing the bus to the list.

"There's always another bus. There's only one you," VIA President and CEO Jeffrey Arndt said in a news release. "The safety of our customers, employees, and the traveling public remains VIA's top priority, as we work each day to connect our region."

Arndt said all VIA buses will eventually bear the "Stay Safe, Don't Chase" sign or some other safety message.

The campaign also reflects the agency's commitment as a partner in Vision Zero San Antonio, a community-wide effort to advance public safety, Arndt said.
