Suspect accused of shooting man is charged with capital murder 4 months later

SAN ANTONIO – A suspect who shot a man over money and left him for dead was arrested four months later and charged with capital murder, police said.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force on Friday arrested 23-year-old Savawn Kyle on the North Side.

Police said Kyle shot 29-year-old Renard Smith at a convenience store near the intersection of Midcrown Drive and Walzem Road. Investigators said Kyle walked away with cash.

Police said surveillance video and a tip from the public led to the arrest.

“We have to have enough probable cause before we issue that warrant, and finally, detectives got to that point with that Crime Stoppers tip, with some witness information and then some evidence from the scene. We felt that Mr. Kyle was the prime person that we were looking for,” said Officer Doug Greene, with the San Antonio Police Department.

Police said the investigation isn’t over and there may be more arrests.
