Fiesta Texas, other Six Flags theme parks take down Confederate States flag

SAN ANTONIO – Flag displays at Six Flags theme parks got a makeover on Friday.

After standing by its decision to fly the Confederate States flag alongside flags for Texas, Mexico, America, Spain and France on Thursday, Six Flags released the following statement:

At Six Flags Over Texas, we strive every single day to make people happy and to create a fun, thrilling and safe family friendly experience for our guests. We always choose to focus on celebrating the things that unite us versus those that divide us. As such, we have changed the flag displays in our park to feature American flags

Now, the parks' flag display features six American flags.

The change comes after the park defended the Confederate States flag to TMZ, saying, "They see a fundamental distinction between the flag they fly and the Confederate Battle flag... (and) the distinction is that white supremacists and neo-Nazis have adopted the Battle flag and not the banner the theme park waves."

TMZ posed the question to Arlington's Six Flags Over Texas theme park on Thursday following deadly protests in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.

It's unclear what flags will fly over Six Flags' locations in Mexico and Canada.

Many were torn over the park's decision.
