Houston-area man rescued after being stuck in manhole for 6 days

Flooding from Hurricane Harvey might have caused cover to come off

HOUSTON – A man is lucky to be alive after being stuck in a manhole in southwest Houston for six days, police in Houston say.

The man was found just after 3 a.m. Monday after he fell into the hold under Belway 8 and Highway 59.

Officials said flooding from Hurricane Harvey might have caused the cover to come off the hole.

According to officials, the man was walking through the field when he fell into the manhole.

Firefighters used a ladder to climb in and pull the man out. 

Fire officials said he did not have any food or water while he was trapped.

He suffered a leg injury and was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

Witnesses said the man was not very talkative, but was alert. They said they gave him water before he was taken to the hospital.
