Man shot in leg during argument with ex-wife at West Side home

Shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. in 6000 block of Topcroft Drive

SAN ANTONIO – A local man was taken to an area hospital after he was shot during an argument at a home on the city's West Side overnight.

The shooting was reported just before 1 a.m. at a home in the 6000 block of Topcroft Drive, which is not far from Callaghan and Culebra roads.

According to police, a 29-year-old man showed up to the house and got into a fight with his ex-wife. That's when, police said, another man got in between them and ultimately pulled out a gun and shot him in the leg.

The wounded man drove himself to Callaghan Road, where he called for help. He was taken to University Hospital for his injuries and is expected to recover.

Police said the man who fired the gunshot was detained at the scene. After receiving consent to search the man's vehicle, police said officers found a black handgun underneath a car seat near where he was sitting.

Officers also found heroin in the suspect's possession, according to police.

Police said the suspect is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

The suspect was also found to have an active warrant for his arrest, according to police.
