Police investigating after body of 17-year-old found in Elmendorf

Police Chief Marco Pena identified the victim as Oscar Rangel, 17

ELMENDORF, Texas – Elmendorf police are investigating an area where the body of a 17-year-old was discovered on Thursday.

Police Chief Marco Pena identified the teen as Oscar Rangel. He said Oscar’s body was found near the intersection of South Second Avenue and East Ninth Street.

Pena said the Oscar was staying with a friend who lived in the area. Around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, the teen left his friend’s home without his shoes, Pena said.

Jasmine Rangel said she received a call that her younger brother had not returned. She said her family, along with Oscar’s friends, searched the area.

Oscar’s body was eventually found by one of the people was staying with, according to police.

Jasmine said her family is trying to wake up from a nightmare.

“He was 17, like he was doing so good, and to find out that something happened to him was just drastic,” she said.

Pena said Oscar had a T-shirt and boxers on when his body was found. He believes the death is suspicious, but it’s too early to rule it a homicide.

“We’re going to do what we can and investigate this case thoroughly to find out what truly happened,” said Pena

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office provided additional resources to Elmendorf police during their investigation.
