MCKINNEY, Texas – A convicted sex predator is in jail after parents discovered a letter their child had written to God that disclosed the man was abusing their daughter.

Mark Elliott Jones, 49, of McKinney, was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison without the possibility of parole for continuous sexual abuse of a child.

Jones sexually abused two children who he had ongoing access over a period of several years, according to a press release from the Collin County District Attorney’s Office.

The victims were 10 and 14 years old.

According to the release, the parents of one of the victims found a letter their child had written to God in which she disclosed the abuse.

The parents reported the information to law enforcement and an investigation led to the discovery of a second victim.

“It is a sad day in the community when we learn that a sexual predator has been abusing even one innocent child for years. But to learn that this predator sexually traumatized not one but two innocent children is simply unbearable,” said District Attorney Greg Willis.

A jury found Jones guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child, which has a minimum punishment of 25 years in prison. Texas law states that the sentencing for such a crime does not allow eligibility for parole.
