UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas – A man is facing a felony charge after his infant child suffered serious injuries that investigators say were caused intentionally.
Erick Israel Espinoza-Resendez, 20, is charged with injury to a child, serious bodily injury - intent/know, a first-degree felony.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, emergency medical services were called to Espinoza-Resendez’s Universal City apartment because his two-month old baby was not breathing and was unresponsive.
Espinoza-Resendez said the baby “choked on his milk” and told investigators that the infant had been irritable and acting unusual ever since he dropped his cell phone on the infant’s face a couple days before.
The child had swelling and bruising on his face and redness to his lip, according to the affidavit.
EMS workers resuscitated the infant and transported him to the hospital where doctors found hemorrhaging in both eyes, bleeding on his brain and other brain injuries. The doctors determined the injuries were consistent with “shaken baby syndrome” and not consistent with Espinoza-Resendez’s explanation.
Court records show that Espinoza-Resendez is in the Bexar County Jail with his bond set at $100,000.
