SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are investigating after a man was stabbed on the city’s North Side early Thursday morning.

Officers were called around 1 a.m. to the 1700 block of West Ridgewood Court, not far from Interstate 10 and Fredericksburg Road after receiving word of a person wounded.

According to police, a man in his 40s said he was walking back from the store when someone jumped out and surprised him, hitting him in the head and then stabbing him in the chest. It’s unclear if anything was stolen.

The man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, where he’s listed in critical condition.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
