1 dead, another injured in South Side shooting, SAPD says

The victims were involved in a ‘verbal altercation’ with multiple other people that escalated into a shooting

SAN ANTONIO – A man was killed and another person was injured after a shooting on the South Side early Sunday morning, according to San Antonio police.

Officers responded to the shooting just before 1:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Commercial Avenue at Papi Gallo Cantina.

Upon arrival, officers found two people with gunshot wounds, police said.

Police said the victims had been involved in a “verbal altercation” with multiple people inside the building. The argument continued outside and escalated into a shooting with two victims, SAPD said.

A 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The second victim was taken to a hospital, and the extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

The shooters fled the location, according to police.

Additional information was not immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
