The man allegedly drove aggressively and chased the officer in his vehicle before cutting across multiple lanes of traffic and striking another vehicle, according to the San Antonio Police Department. The man then pulled up alongside the officer’s stopped vehicle.

The off-duty officer told police he believed the man was going to pull out a firearm. Police said the officer retrieved his weapon and fired at the suspect’s vehicle.

SAPD said the man fled the scene.

The 50-year-old man was later located at a residence after emergency services were called for a person with a gunshot wound, police said. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It was not immediately clear what action, if any, had been taken regarding the officer’s duty status. KSAT has reached out to the police department for comment.

The investigation is ongoing.
