SAPD fires officer accused of beating girlfriend with rock

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio Police Department officer accused of beating his girlfriend with a rock has been fired by the department and remains under criminal investigation for the incident.

Officer Justin Ayars is accused of fracturing the woman’s orbital wall and sinus wall during the May 26 incident at a Far North Side apartment complex, according to termination paperwork released Tuesday by SAPD.

The girlfriend told KSAT’s Dillon Collier in June, weeks after the incident, that Ayars hit her in the head with a rock during the melee.

The woman, who KSAT is not identifying, said she was forced to go through reconstructive surgery on her face after the incident.

An official with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said Ayars remains under criminal investigation.

Ayars filed for a protective order against the woman after the altercation, according to Bexar County court records.
