What you need to know about VA home loans

SAN ANTONIO – The VA Home Loan Guy, Pat Fitzgerald, is on a mission to help active military and veterans with their home loan needs.

A VA loan is a home loan that is underwritten the department of veteran affairs.

"It enables veterans and active military people to buy a home using their VA benefits," said Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald said there is no down payment if they stay under $424,000.

He also said you can use a VA loan to buy not just a single family home, but also a multi-family property, a duplex, triplex, condo, townhouse, acreage.

"The key factor there is that the veteran has to move into the house as their primary residence."

Fitzgerald said you can prequalify by telephone or website and that it only takes about an hour or two to make a decision.

"It doesn't cost a penny to talk, if you have questions, call me right now and I will answer them all."
