SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women’s basketball program has seen many talented teams battle opponents at the Convocation Center.
On Saturday, the Roadrunners moved closer to making history in a game highlighted by alumni being honored at halftime and WNBA Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon sitting courtside.
Becky Hammon is in attendance for today’s @UTSAWBB game. Maybe some early scouting ahead of the @WNBA draft in April? 👀🏀 #BirdsUp #WNBA @UTSAAthletics @BeckyHammon @ksatnews #SanAntonio pic.twitter.com/BSKm7Ma8wn

After getting off to a hot start, leading 20-8 at the end of the first quarter and being up by 18 at halftime, the Shockers came back in the 3rd quarter to make it a nine-point game.
But that’s when point guard Nina De Leon Negron and Jordyn Jenkins found their range from deep to help UTSA pull away for the win.

While improving to a 14-2 overall record, the Roadrunners' 5-0 start in games against American Athletic Conference opponents ties their best start to conference play in program history. The previous record was held by the 1983-84 team.
Sitting on top of the conference standings is great, but getting to spend time with a basketball icon and former San Antonio Spurs Assistant Coach Becky Hammon had the Roadrunners players excited.
“We had a little chat postgame, and she gave us some great advice and talked to us a little bit about her players, which was really cool,” said Jenkins. “She was just telling us how to be better players and what it’s like to possibly be at the next level.”
