'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' has started principal photography
Anson Mount made the character of Captain Pike his own and we have high hopes for "Strange New Worlds." Principal photography has begun on the much-anticipated premiere season of "Strange New Worlds," according to Variety . Kalinda Vazquez has been appointed by Paramount Pictures to write a new "Star Trek" movie, with JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot producing, Deadline reports . This news would confirm that Paramount is once again pushing forward with a big screen "Star Trek" feature after Noah Hawley's stalled attempt . Finally, CBS All Access has become Paramount+ as of 4 March and as such every incarnation of "Star Trek" is now available there.space.com
Will Paramount+ be a mountain or a molehill in streaming?
It's betting that consumers are willing to add yet another paid streaming service in an increasingly crowded field. “Paramount+ has a mountain of challenges ahead of it," said Tim Hanlon, CEO of Vertere Group, playing off the Paramount+ tagline, “A mountain of entertainment." CBS All Access, Showtime and BET+ now have nearly 30 million subscribers, some of who will shift to Paramount+. ViacomCBS said some of the studio’s films, including “Mission: Impossible 7” and “A Quiet Place Part II,” will go to its fledgling streaming service, Paramount+, after 45 days in theaters. “If they want to act like a second tier streaming service, they're doing a fantastic job."
CBS orders a third 'Star Trek' series with Spock onboard
NEW YORK CBS All Access is bringing back Spock for its third full live action show in the Star Trek universe, ordering a new series set in the years before Capt. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will star Anson Mount as Capt. Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. It will be the third show in the Alex Kurtzman-pioneered Trekverse after Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. Peck, Mount and Romijn will be reprising their respective roles from Season 2 of Discovery.Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Pecks portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on 'Star Trek: Discovery' last season, said Julie McNamara, executive vice president and head of programming at CBS All Access. This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek.There's also an animated series in the works, "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
